SUDBURY, ON - June 19, 2026 - We are thrilled to announce that Vianet has officially acquired NetSpectrum. This marks our third strategic expansion this year - following our acquisition of Barrie-based Point to Point Broadband in February and the integration of Sudbury ISP Sunwire's third-party customers in April continuing our commitment to deliver reliable, independent connectivity to regional and Northern Ontario.
For our customers, the best part of this transition is that we are not starting from scratch. Vianet has also been proudly reselling NetSpectrum's wireless service for over 10 years. Because of this decade-long partnership, our technical teams already know this infrastructure. It makes the transition easy for NetSpectrum customers—you are dealing with the same familiar service and a partner you can trust. In additional, you will also have access to Vianet's Flextv television service.
This acquisition also includes the fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks recently built by NetSpectrum. These fibre customers are in excellent hands; Vianet operates a large fibre network, ensuring these new footprints are backed by technical expertise and long-term stability.
Geographically, the NetSpectrum network is a perfect fit. It sits right in the heart of our existing serving area, predominantly spanning the regions between North Bay, Sudbury, and Parry Sound. Merging this network into our established wireless infrastructure—which already boasts more than 400 towers across the province—was an easy operational choice that will strengthen regional reliability.
“We are incredibly excited to integrate NetSpectrum customers into the Vianet family,” said Lisa McWhirter, Commercial Process and Strategy Manager for Vianet. “By combining NetSpectrum's wireless and new FTTH projects our existing 400-plus tower infrastructure and extensive fibre network, we are doing what we do best: strengthening local internet for the communities that depend on it. This isn't just about getting bigger; it's about continuing to offer a local independent choice for our neighbours.”
We will be reaching out directly to affected customers in the coming weeks with further details about the transition. In the meantime, we want to give a warm welcome to everyone joining us from NetSpectrum—we are proud to connect you.
